Prête à aller

My plane takes off in less than four days. I can't believe it. I've been so busy with school and the holidays that I haven't had a chance to stop and think.

Today my mom and I went to Target to do some final shopping. I now have (almost) everything I need and am now in the process of packing (and repacking) my stuff. Everyone has told me I should try to bring as little as possible, so I'm trying really hard to bring the bare minimum. We shall see if I will succeed...

My greatest challenge with packing so far has been clothing. The French evidently wear mostly dark colors, especially in winter, and as I am a fan of bright, colorful clothes I have had a hard time finding clothes in my wardrobe that will allow me to blend in. Needless to say I've spent a lot of time combing the Target racks for inexpensive, dark shirts.
Final count: I am packing 12 shirts (6 winter, 2 intermediate, and 4 spring) and 4 pairs of pants for five months in France.
My other challenge is boots. Evidently my New Balance tennis shoes are unacceptable in France, so I've been on the hunt for the impossible: comfortable AND fashionable boots. I haven't had success yet, so I'm praying to find something in Paris.

As my days in the States draw to a close I'm just trying to stay in the moment and appreciate my last hours in my familiar American culture. It's hard to believe that in four days English will no longer be a part of my day-to-day interactions and everything I'm so used to having readily available will be nonexistent. My aunt has already decided my last meal: Papa Murphy's pizza--definitely not available in France.

Despite the lack of Papa Murphy's pizza in my future, I know great things lie ahead of me. I am ready to embark on my journey and be changed by my experiences. Vive la France!
